GROW GREEN & HEALTHY HALLOWELL (GGHH) is a coalition of concerned citizens working to promote the health of our growing children, adults, family pets, wildlife, pollinators, plants, aquatic life in The Kennebec River and Vaughn Brook Watershed, by reducing toxic pesticide use on our lawns & gardens, children’s sports fields, and public spaces.
Pesticides are carried by run-off onto adjacent property and downhill into the Vaughan Brook Watershed and Kennebec River, and leach into the soil and water table. Pesticides also drift through the air, and are tracked into our homes on shoes.
The most Sustainable way to protect our residents and the environment is with a Land Management Ordinance that reduces synthetic pesticide and fertilizer use (with exemptions for public health issues like infestations of deer tick or Brown Tail Moth)
We have joined thirty-one(31) Maine municipalities enacting ordinances that restrict pesticide use; leading the way in choosing to protect citizens and environment from toxic chemicals.
